5 Things You Need To Know About Matter Smart Home Devices

Technology is constantly changing. New devices are emerging with unique features that help make it easier to connect your devices. Smart devices are evolving rapidly, and it is hard to keep up with what is happening. Matter is a new feature for smart home devices, and it simplifies everything about smart home devices. Consumers can now set up their smart home devices no matter the brand.

Here are five things you need to know about Matter Smart Home Devices:

What is Matter, And How Can It Be Used?

Matter solves smart home device solutions. Although smart home devices have allowed consumers to have better appliances, systems, and experiences, some challenges still come with them. Consumers spend a lot of time figuring out which smart home devices are compatible with each other. They have to troubleshoot connectivity issues, which takes time away from using the most out of their devices.

Some consumers have made the switch when it comes to advancing their homes with a new smart device.

On the other hand, many consumers have yet to convert to using more smart home devices because of the inconstant incompatibility.

The purpose of Matter is to work seamlessly with different platforms such as Alexa, Google Assistant, and more. Whether using a cloud service to connect your smart home devices or not, you can still use Matter to keep your devices connected.

Matter Can Make Your Smart Light Bulb Work Quicker

Smart light bulbs with matter will allow consumers to use smart home devices made by different manufacturers. Nanoleaf has announced that its upcoming new smart home device products will be compatible with Matter.

Consumers can use A19, GU10, BR30 light bulbs and Lightstripe with Matter. With Matter, customers don’t have to worry about if they are buying the proper lightbulbs for their homes. It’s integrated with essential products like HomeKit, Google Assistant, and Amazon Alexa.

What Is Needed To Use Matter?

To use Matter, you will need a Matter Controller. It does not identify with any specific brand and can control any device. The type of devices that can be Matter controllers are smart speakers, voice assistants, apps, or apps with hubs. A Matter Controller is a way to manage communication between multiple devices. Think of it as a remote control.

You will also need a thread border router. It creates a self-healing mesh network. The more devices you have on it, the more reliable it will be. The great thing about a thread border router is that it doesn't have to be a hardwired internet connection, and you can use it as long as you have Wi-Fi.

What Devices Can You Use With Matter?

When you include Matter in your smart home devices, you don’t need to switch any of your devices. Some companies are looking to upgrade to Matter so that more consumers can use their devices with other smart home devices unrelated to their brand.

Currently, Matter supports Amazon Alexa, Google Nest, Google Home, Apple Home, Samsung SmartThings, and more.

Recap

The creation of Matter will benefit consumers and tech companies selling smart home devices. For customers, it will allow them to buy any smart device brand without worrying if they will sync together. Companies that include Matter in their smart home devices will be able to attract new customers that want to test their products. Once consumers know that they don’t need to stick with one brand for everything to sync, they will be more likely to want to try different brands of smart home devices.
